The FDA requires you to perform a series of simple tests and record them in the batch production log before you can begin filling. These tests are critical to your personal safety as well as others around you

One such test is the "sniff test." Vent the gas away from you and others, and use your hand to wave it towards you. Smell the gas to detect any foreign odor. Do not perform this test on carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, or anesthetic gases. If the cylinder is empty, introduce medical grade Nitrogen to perform a sniff test on the resulting gas.
This Nitrogen is intended to allow you to do the sniff test on empty cylinders.
